A boat from Atlantis
In 2018, I started creating my antique project works after I visited my hometown in Japan. My father’s old handmade tool attracted me.
Each antique object I work with is handcrafted and has got individual character and history. The project derives from a concept of what can be possibly incorporated into ceramic forms.
This old table was given by my neighbor. I was stated talking to this object to find out how to approach it to create a new collaborative work between myself and this beautiful object.
Contrary to mass-produced products, it is a project that addresses environmental issues.
This work is a collaborative work between a found object and myself. Firstly I have made countless porcelain spikes.
I pinched a little amount of porcelain clay and rolled it with my finger on the MDF board to create spiky clay needles.
These spikes put on the kiln shelf and were fired in high temperature kiln without any glaze.
All the top surface of this antique table were drilled and finally the porcelain spikes were attached into the each holes.
